2023 Porsche Macan review: Small SUV to buy if you like to driveFor those looking for a small SUV

For those looking for a small SUV that doesn't drive like a small SUV, the 2023 Porsche Macan is a good place to start if you've got the cash for its steep entryway. In fact, it doesn't feel like an SUV at all except for the constant awkwardness when your first impression is higher than any other impression that you should be. All those comments say you should be in a Porsche sports car, which is great for driving the kid to school or going to Target.

That's especially true when you start choosing from a wide range of performance options, or let Porsche do it for you by going with the new Macan T or the top-of-the-line Macan GTS. Finally we will highly recommend those. Not that there's anything wrong with the Macan S (we've enjoyed every minute of the two weeks we've had one), but if you're going with a small SUV that's fine with the best you can drive, you may find it capable and enjoyable. That would be the T and the GTS.

That said, if you're really looking for a luxurious, well-rounded SUV, the Macan might not be the best bet. It's on the small side, it returns below-average fuel economy and its regular revenue streams are poor. If you don't want to drive, there are smart options.

What's new in 2023?

The Macan T is added to the model line. As we detailed in our first Macan T car review, it takes the Macan's four-cylinder engine and runs on it a selection of chassis upgrade parts from the range many focused on performance to create a smart choice for the driving enthusiast. We like it quite a bit. After many extensive changes last year, the only update for 2023 comes with adaptive cruise control.

How is the Macan's interior and in-car technology?

As we've come to expect from Porsche, the Macan can be driven to your heart's content. Aluminium, carbon fiber, wood and paint in a surprising number of combinations are available. . You sit down a lot, but the first impression is very good. The steep roofline really reduces rear visibility; external design conflict. You can throw a perfect wheel (optional GT Sport) right on your lap, and it never hides the dimensions. It's the perfect size for thickness, very small in width and has a painted metal back.

The gauges may be old-school Porsches at this point - newer models have more digital screens - but that doesn't make them bad. A lightning-fast tachometer is centrally positioned where it should be for a car with a sports car badge on its hood, and an easy-to-read digital speedometer is embedded inside. .
